I met Jarel the night of critical mass. He was at balboa park super early riding around. He looked like an interesting guy, so I asked him if I could take a few pictures of him. He was very willing. Here are a few shots of our impromptu photo shoot.

School Life

During the semester at Cal State Fullerton, I had to document my school life. I used to do this when I went to photo school, I don’t know why I didn’t think of carrying it over to Fullerton.

This is Adam. He is a dear friend I met at Fullerton. He didn’t enjoy me photographing him on this day.

The Kilns Band.

I had the pleasure of shooting this band, The Kilns…. in Downtown San Diego a few weeks ago. These particular images were shot inside the U.S Grant hotel.

I loved the natural light I was getting from the window. We shot a lot outside, in downtown, but these were some of my favorites from the afternoon.

My friend Deidre was in town this last week. She is currently a photo assistant in New York, and in town on a job with photographer John Rae. He is a professional documentary and commercial photographer, based in New York. I met her at the hotel bar to catch up on “life”. John joined us and we all talked photo. He was a really cool guy who swears he doesn’t give out photo advice to young photographer. It’s an inside joke with him I’m guessing. However, he did spill the beans on a few photo tips before realizing I was a photographer. Here are a few of his images.

I really like his angles, use of color and lighting!

For my photojournalism midterm, I was given a quote and from there created a series of colleges using anything that pertained to said quote. Mine was, “When you know another person as yourself, you learn from that person. When you feel, all persons are your teachers.” These are a few of my favorites. I have never collaged before in photoshop. I found this assignment to be fun and challenging, as well as, a good emotional release. About half of the photos are my own, some are taken by artists I admire, some are found images. All words are by favorite authors of mine.

some inspiration was taken from collage artist Agnes Montgomery. I highly recommend checking them out.

One Group Entertainment

One Group Events is an up and coming entertainment group catering to the Persian community nationwide from Los Angeles to New York and growing everyday. Their goal is to become the premier Iranian events company in the nation, by coordinating events at the hottest venues.

I got to shoot their first event in Los Angeles, and these are a few of my favorites.

I really liked the guys’ (on the far right) expression when looking at the crowd.

I hand held a 430ex flash with a off camera cord to try to get a more dramatic lighting looking verse on camera flash, also using slower shutter speeds to try to mix flash and ambient light.

Spot News

So next door to my work, there is a 7-11. Something always happens at this 7-11. I’ve seen many people get arrested, I’ve seen a hostage situation, where the cops are behind their cars with shot guns yelling at surrounding business to lock their doors. This day however, there was a dumpster fire! I just happened to be outside when the fire department pulled up, grabbed my camera and tried to shoot what I could. I missed the flames that were coming out of the dumpster..what a shame. I had a very limited area to shoot, so again, as my first time shooting a spot news event, I had to work within my area. I tried to stay out of the way of the firemen and stayed out there as long as I could before they told me to get lost. Next time, I realize I need to move around more! NEXT TIME!
